NAHASH & SLATE Performance Recap

NAHASH & SLATE Performance Recap

Last Saturday April 25th, NAHASH and SLATE Contemporary Dance Company performed for one night in Shanghai’s M50 art district. The audiovisual performances also featured collaborators Pan Daijing and Carmen Ho. NAHASH//CINE SONIC EXPLORATIONS For the first performance, Nahash (Tina Blakeney and Raphael Valensi) created and manipulated a mix of EPs on their Huashan Label with abandoned 16mm film. The VJing performance layered thundering drums, analogue synths and field recordings over handmade & hand painted film . The visual and sound elements worked in relation and reaction to each other, and an audience of over fifty people enjoyed the film montage of archival footage, lost films and textural experiments. ‘AS IF TRYING TO CATCH SMOKE’//SLATE CONTEMPORARY DANCE/PAN DAIJING/CARMEN HO The second performance of the evening was a multi-media performance, with visual elements by Carmen Ho, sound by Pan Daijing and SLATE contemporary Dance Company. NAHASH & Slate Double Bill

On Saturday April 25th Shanghai’s M50 art district will host a one night audiovisual performance featuring NAHASH and SLATE Contemporary Dance Company with Pan Daijing and Carmen Ho. The visual and sound work in response and reaction to each other, created and manipulated live. In this performance, abandoned 16mm film is mixed with handmade & hand painted film to create a montage of archival footage, lost films and textural experiments. Tina Blakeney collects discarded 16mm film reels, re-editing found footage to create a surreal film collage. She also works directly on the film strip, painting, scratching and drawing on to the celluloid to create wild abstract landscapes. These “lost films”with out name or narrative, are reappropriated into new elaborate chronologies. ‘AS IF TRYING TO CATCH SMOKE’//SLATE CONTEMPORARY...
