NAHASH & SLATE Performance Recap
Last Saturday April 25th, NAHASH and SLATE Contemporary Dance Company performed for one night in Shanghai’s M50 art district. The audiovisual performances also featured collaborators Pan Daijing and Carmen Ho.
NAHASH//CINE SONIC EXPLORATIONS
For the first performance, Nahash (Tina Blakeney and Raphael Valensi) created and manipulated a mix of EPs on their Huashan Label with abandoned 16mm film. The VJing performance layered thundering drums, analogue synths and field recordings over handmade & hand painted film . The visual and sound elements worked in relation and reaction to each other, and an audience of over fifty people enjoyed the film montage of archival footage, lost films and textural experiments.
‘AS IF TRYING TO CATCH SMOKE’//SLATE CONTEMPORARY DANCE/PAN DAIJING/CARMEN HO
The second performance of the evening was a multi-media performance, with visual elements by Carmen Ho, sound by Pan Daijing and SLATE contemporary Dance Company. Choreographed by company member Anneliese Charek and accompanied by a live set by Pan Daijing. The artists involved in the collaboration explored the themes of dreams and personal pasts to create an immersive experience. The performance featured dancers; Corine Englander, Ramsey Dewey, Yun Cheng and Anneliese Charek and melded together experimental sound, dance, and a visual interpretation of the themes through elements of multi-media.
